June 22, 2009 – Los Angeles, CA – The Center for Climate Action, a new and independent program working to advance climate action in the western U.S. and Canada, announced Margaret Bruce has assumed the role of program Director. With climate change policy quickly developing on national and state levels, the Center provides a timely and necessary policy forum for solutions-oriented climate education, engagement and action focused on the region. Margaret, a veteran in environmental issues, brings a high voltage jump start to the program.

“We could not have found a better candidate to fill the Director position. Margaret is highly respected for her accomplishments in strategizing, strengthening and implementing environmental solutions in both the private and public sectors. She has a proven track record in coalition building throughout California and the West. Her expertise will guide the Center for Climate Action’s efforts to achieve innovative and beneficial policy-oriented action,” said Gary Gero, President of the Climate Action Reserve.

As the Director for the Center, Margaret will convene leaders from the private and public sectors to join in collaborative discussion and action on current and emerging climate policy issues. She will be responsible for the development of the Center, including its climate policy thought-leadership discussion series, annual climate conference show, sector-specific climate policy working groups and prestigious Climate Action Champion leadership awards. Margaret also will lead Center delegations on climate policy study trips, including the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties.

“The Center for Climate Action and its parent organization, the Climate Action Reserve, are at the forefront of bringing government, nonprofit, academic and a range of business sectors together to reach consensus and take action with economic and environmental benefits,” said Margaret. “I am excited to join the Center for Climate Action to expand on the Reserve’s tradition of encouraging action to address the urgent challenge of climate change. Together with dedicated staff and Partners of the Center, we will advance climate policies and solutions through education, engagement and collaboration.”

To the position, Margaret brings over 20 years of environmental management, advocacy and policy experience. She is a recognized environmental leader in the western U.S. with extensive experience in business, industry, non-profit, and federal and local government. Margaret most recently served as Western Regional Director for The Climate Group where she directed and accelerated the transition to a low carbon economy through engagement with leading global and regional corporate and government leaders. She also is the co-founder and board member of Sustainable Silicon Valley and has served as a Governor’s appointee to the San Francisco Regional Water Quality Control Board.
